Phil Hansen

My Visual Design Theory teacher introduced me to the works of Phil Hansen, and I must say that this guy is one talented artist. Every picture he does is constructed using a completely different, and often times very abstract method than the last time. The materials and way in which he designs each new piece says as much about the art as the actual subject depicted.

In one case Hansen used 500ml of his own blood and designed a portrait of North Korea's Leader Kim Jong Il. The blood was no doubt used as a testament to the bloodshed that North Korea's Dictator is responsible for. In another piece of artwork, Hansen used only the names of soldiers who have been slain in the Iraqi War and arranged them so they formed a picture of George Bush.

Hansen uses all sorts of crazy techniques to make stunning artwork. What makes him so interesting is not so much what he produces, but how he produces it. If you haven't heard of him I urge you to check out his website.
