Picasa (google)

Today Google is much more than “that company that made that search engine everybody uses”.  Sure that is their call to fame, but they are a company filled with tons of talent and are getting involved in all sorts of cutting edge computer technology.  You have Google Earth, Google Chrome, which is their own search engine, and Android, their own OS. They’re an up and coming, much less scary and more hip version of Microsoft.

I’m assuming Picasa is more of a side project for them, but still exciting and cool nonetheless.  Picasa is a free digital photo editing program.  I haven’t had much time to use it extensively but it seems to be a great alternative for those who can’t afford Photoshop.  It seems much simpler anyways.  For anyone who has used Photoshop, you will know that it is an amazing program but it’s certainly daunting at first glance.  Not unlike staring at the cockpit of a 747 with the task of flying.  Whereas Photoshop would be more for professional use, I think Picasa is better suited for your average Joe looking for simple photo fixes.

These are just my first impressions of Picasa.  I downloaded and played around for ten minutes so my opinions could change.  I am going to do a follow up post after I mess around with the program some more.
